Flash Back: 1955 Honeymoon

Wilma Reich married Paul Hoffman on January 9, 1955—and kept every receipt. Back then, things were just a little less expensive.

We met when I was 17. My brother invited friends over to see if I could get them dates for New Year’s Eve. I said, ‘That one’s cute, but I’m not gonna get him a date because I’m going to want him for myself somewhere down the line.’ He did ask me out for New Year’s, but I said no: I didn’t want him to think I was desperate. He was in the Navy, and we started corresponding; we were engaged one year later. He asked my father for my hand in marriage, the old-fashioned way. In 1955, Florida was the place to go for your honeymoon. I grew up in the Bronx and had never been out of the neighborhood, so I was very excited. We took a flight on Eastern Air Lines, which no longer exists, and left from Idlewild Airport, which is now JFK. Back then they wrote your tickets out in pencil. The Casablanca Hotel was one of the only places that had air-conditioning; I think it cost $26 a day.”

What a cute story, right?

I found this article on nymag.com and I just had to share!

Round trip ticket for two to Miami, FL- $99!

P.S. Does anyone have a time machine I can borrow?

Sunday, Funday!

Daniel and I have been needing some time alone, life has been so hectic lately. We decided to drop the little one off with Nana and Papa and go for a ride… We rode all over the hills behind our house.. We stopped once for a little break, the explorer in me came and and I walked around a bit.. Until I started thinking about the signs that have been posted around my area saying that they have been several “BIG FOOT SIGHTINGS!” I speed walked back to Daniel and the quad. Near where we parked, I found this nice little note on a rock (below).. I have to say, I do agree!  We kept riding until the tank was nearly empty, it was a lot of fun and I got a little sun..

We were pretty hungry and we still had some time to spare so we got lunch and headed to a small bridge close to our house, it was the perfect idea! We sat and ate lunch on the bank of the river (until we were swarmed by little buggers!) I was hoping the two mallard ducks would show up there because this is where we encountered them the other day.. even though they didn’t it was still a good time and were going back soon(just with repellent this time)

Daniels Cap: “Do not make any hasty decisions.” Mine: “Be an angel, save a life.”

Do you remember otter pops? If so, That’s what the blue one tasted like- a blue otter pop! It was yummy (and daniels.. so I had to sneak some, hehe)

California Audubon: Kern River Preserve

This is one of my favorite places in the entire world(maybe even the place my wedding will be held!!!), it’s very close to my house and even closer to the elementary and middle school I attended, which does make me a bit nostalgic, I have to say. I started dragging bringing my fiancĂ© here a few months ago and for some reason whenever he tags along, we usually see amazing things! Pssshhh. Winking smile

DSCF3173Today, we encountered a pair of love birds just like us Smile they were mallard ducks, I believe. They were so pretty, they sat on the bank of the river for a moment then after observing the area and ruffling their feathers the got into the water.. then before I knew it they both disappeared down stream..

We decided we didn’t want to go home just yet for one, our son was still wide awake in the backseat and for two, it was to gorgeous of a day to stay cooped up inside.. so we drove past our old school (yes we went to the same school(s)Smile) then we made our last stop at a bridge about 3 miles from the preserve, guess who met us there? THE LOVE BIRDS! I was shocked! I didn’t have enough time to get my camera out simply because I was in pure shock! I do not believe in coincidences so I have yet to figure out what happened on the Kern River today.. but it was sweet, to say the least!

It was a great way to spend a Friday afternoon; with my two favorite boys.Red heart

Morro Bay Trip: Thrift Shop

I love going to the coast and visiting my sister, she lives insanely close to the ocean- It’s AMAZING and I never want to leave once I get there. They have the best little thrift stores in town here is one that I really enjoyed being in, it was a little pricey for a second hand store(I can’t remember the name of it though! I’ll have to ask my sister) but it had some really interesting stuff! They had it set up in little sections, like rooms.. This was the part that was supposed to look like an office, it felt like I was in a time warp while I roamed around the store. Smile

Silence…

I don’t even know the meaning to the word, not that I am complaining because I would much rather be too busy than bored. Let’s start with my son, he is officially mobile and the world better watch out because he is CRAZY, he is actually yelling at me from the other room as I type. We took our first quad ride yesterday, L loved the wind blowing in his face, that is until we ran out of gas! Good thing daddy is so strong (and our destination was downhill) because he had to push us home! Surprised smile

My ETSY shop is in it’s 2nd and is doing nicely. Yay Sew Cal Mama Shop!!!! I finished a case yesterday for a nice lady in SC and I am planning on doing 3 more over the next week. I hope this works out for me because I love working from home and being my own boss. Maybe then I will not boss my hubby so much! He would love that Open-mouthed smile

My fundraising efforts are working.. my team has raised nearly $1000 for the March of Dimes! Our walk had to be rescheduled due to crazy Cali weather so we changed our event location and date. I love the cause don’t get me wrong but I now remember why I have little to no “girl”friends, besides the handful of ones I have had for years, they are to much drama usually and I choose to not deal with that. But one good thing that came out of it was reconnecting with a childhood friend.. She is just like me, Thank God! We have stuck together the whole experience and I am so happy to have her help and hope to continue to stay friends throughout our lives.

Spring has sprung here in the Valley. I like to visit the local bird sanctuary which is luckily about 5 miles from my house, it is so gorgeous this time of year- Don’t you think? Smile
