DIY Smudge Stick

Ever since I moved out of my mom’s house a few years ago, she’s made me Smudge Sticks. I can remember her burning hers throughout the house when I was little and.. well, forever.  Anytime we were going through a family tragedy or just stressful times I would ask my mom to “burn sage.”

I’ve started making my own and want to share a simple picture tutorial to show how easy it is!

Enjoy!

“Smudging, the sacred smoke blessing, is a ceremony for cleansing and purification for the physical and spiritual bodies. Smudging calls on the spirits of sacred herbs and plants to drive away negative energies and to restore balance.”
FRESH SAGE PLANT
Sage is believed to be a masculine plant that reduces or eliminates negative energy.
 supplies

You can use an abalone shell to catch ashes while cleansing your home as well as a spot for your smudge stick.

You will also need a nice and thick yarn or thread as well as a handful of fresh sage. This particular stick turned out to be 12 inches long but you can make them any size you’d like.

Let your stick dry out for a week or even longer.

hang and dry

Once it’s dry, you can start cleansing your home of negative energy!

Start at the North end of your home and work you way around clockwise, circling and meeting back in the same room you started in. Some people use a feather to bat the smoke in a clockwise motion while it burns in an abalone shell. It’s up to you though.

I hope this helped in ridding all negativity from your life and home. <3
